Well today had my surgeon appointment, and yip I need a knee replacement, basically I have no cartilage left on my knee. ACC now no longer will cover it as it is full of arthritis so we are on the public waiting list, unless I want to pay $30,000. For now we will wait and see what happens and seeing as it is summer thats a bonus.
The surgeon today wouldn't be able to do it till March anyway if we went private, and he said I should get a public appointment, within 3 - 4 months and go from there, he said if I can show that I am loosing weight it would help heaps on where they put me on the list.
In the meantime, I have to lose weight, and as much as I can, the more I lose the higher up the public list I will be. As they will see I am helping myself as much as possible not only that but it will also make recovery so much better.
I have rejoined the gym, as aqua jogging is a no go as they are closing the pool for renovations for 18 months, my physio has given me exercises to do at home and at the gym, and food wise well I know lower carb (not Keto), works good for me, so thats what we are doing and it is so much easier in the Spring/Summer, so going to make the most of this weather.
So there we go, for the next couple of weeks, I will go to the gym every 2nd day for the fist couple of weeks, and hope to find a new balance where it does not cause too much pain in my knee. When winter comes and if the pain is too bad, we will look at paying for it privately. So for now we will play it month by month.
Soo follow me on this journey :).
Yes, it will help to lose some weight with regard to your knee and your recovery. I hope your wait isn't too long - thankfully I had health insurance (which costs a lot at my age) but I was able to get my surgery booked a month after my MRI. I honestly couldn't have imagined waiting for a year or so which was the length of time my surgeon said would be the minimum on the public list. Good luck :)
