Boy things can change in a couple of months, a couple of years ago, my knee clicked out, but it got better sooner rather than later, went to the doctor to get ACC coverage, just in case it gave me further trouble, over the following months it happened every now and then and I couldn't weight bare for the first 48 hours but then got better. Anyway this year it kept happening and was taking weeks rather than days to get better. This last time it took 3 weeks plus and the knee pain was still there couldn't walk on it much further than the mailbox. Anyway was seeing my physio with my wrist still, and got her to check the knee, and she thought there might be a tear in the cartilage, so went to my GP last week Thursday, within a week, got my appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon who I saw on Thursday, he took one look and he said 80% he was sure it was a torn cartilage as well as arthritis, and would be having surgery of some sort, so he sent me for an x-ray which I did straight away got the results an hour later, stage 4 arthritis in the knee, I am also going for a MRI, just waiting on the appointment, to confirm or to see what other damage is with the cartilage, you cant tell that from an x-ray, that should be in the next week or so. Basically it is bone on bone now and no wonder it was so sore. I got referred to a physio, the one I currently see with my wrist, so that made it easier lol. Anyway we are doing knee strengthening pre surgery exercises, and then will continue after.
At this stage the orthopaedic surgeon is thinking he will clean it all up and repair the tear with keyhole surgery, oh it is the medial (inside) side of my knee, but said he may need to do a cartilage transfer and we will see how it is after, and then go from there if we need a knee replacement, the MRI will show so much more and I will see him after that. He is pretty sure I will need a knee transplant sooner rather than later on in life. The arthritis diagnosis blew me away and especially the extent of it lol. I will take photos of the x-ray and MRI scan when I see the specialist next. I only expected a tear.
I am back on the weight loss battle, have joined a couple New Zealand Facebook groups about Osteoarthritis, as well as a food one. I am still 22 kilos down so glad I didn't put this weight back on. I am going to start aqua jogging next week, 3 times a week, and have my daily pre-surgery exercises to do and am going to do some gentle walking.
Steph has moved back to this area, so get to see Isaac many times a week, which I love so much. He is such a tiny tot still and cant believe he is 15 months old.
Oh man yesterday we had -3 degrees, it was so cold and then this morning it was -1 degrees, what the hell it is nearly mid October, where is Spring lol.
Anyway thats about it for now, am going to keep updating on here :)
Catch you soon :)
